PLAYS ARE LIKE PRESENTS TO THE INKWELL!

We just can't wait to start reading the plays sent to us through our national call for submissions.

What on EARTH is a dramaturg?

Dramaturg Jenn Book explains the important role that dramaturgs play in making new plays on Inkblog!

about us

Founded in 2007, The Inkwell is the resource for new play development in Washington, DC... for playwrights, for playmakers, and for playgoers.  We support and encourage playmaking in our nation’s capital through:

  • Sustained and open collaborations with early-career playwrights to assist them in developing new plays and a better understanding their own creative process;
  • A range of educational programming for Washington, DC's playmakers that includes  panel discussions and intensive master classes with nationally recognized theatre artists;
  • Networking activities to forge ties between early-career playwrights and producers,  directors, and actors committed to new play development; and,
  • Open rehearsals, staged readings, and Inkubator productions that pull back the curtain to  introduce playgoers to the joyful and mysterious process of making plays.
